Rainy morning

Travel to a cool place with one of my best friends, shouldn't I be happy, looking forward to it, feel excited, or something? But I think if anyone at the office ask if I'm excited I'm just going to lie and say yes, it's easier that way. Well, not quite anyone, there's at least one person I'm not gonna lie to.

Feel something at least... I guess just the general kind of annoyance and frustration that always comes along with packing. And the bit of worry that things'll get stolen or something bad will happen. Why don't those feelings disappear too?

But there's always hope. Well otherwise I should just cancel the tickets and save myself the money. The biggest cost of this trip is the 'opportunity cost' of almost 3 weeks without pay. Airline ticket's less than half of that. But overall, keep telling myself that it will be good to get away for a bit, and things will be fun once I'm there.

It's raining this morning. I like the rain. Not always of course, but in general yes.

Friday evening Lanchi needed a ride to somewhere with fast internet, so I played taxi driver. Hung out at Sait for a while, I've only ever been there once, and only a few metres inside the building. It would have been fun to explore, in fact I dreamed about SAIT a few weeks ago, but Lanchi had 'work' to do, and then security wanted us to check in at the security desk with our ID cards... ummm... oops. Afterwards, dragged her to banana jaks. I used to go there lots in the good ol' days, but haven't been for a long time. Of course it's no longer banana jaks, I knew that, but it's similar. Overall didn't seem as cool though. The menu wasn't as good either. And it seemed pretty dead compared to what I remember, maybe people go earlier in the evening or another night? Anyways, overall still my kind of place, but without some people to go there with, who cares.

Don't know if I'll be posting much for the next few weeks.

リング

My ring is back! Now that the snow has melted, I discovered it where I had a feeling I might have lost it, near the bus stop over 4 weeks ago. Wow. Pretty happy about it. I hadn't really planned on replacing it, so it's kindof weird to have it again. Seems it got a tiny bit roughed up during its adventure, but that's fine.

Can't get it in

I'm talking about contact lenses.

Wanted contacts to wear while scuba diving on vacation. Places have different prices, everywhere wants you to have a fitting and some want to charge you, some don't. I decided to go to superstore, they seemed to have the best price, no fee for fitting, and said I could get a 10 pack of something (rather than 30 packs everywhere else... considering I hardly plan to use them, seemed like a waste). So I had to skip a chunk of the afternoon and go there, and it was super far away. Oh discovered that I'd have to do 30 packs afterall, kindof annoying. After the quick exam thing, gave me a sample to put on and see how does it feel. I spent like half an hour and still couldn't get either one in. I had a trial pair of something a few years ago, and it was hard, but I was able to do it eventually. These ones just couldn't. I think they're less rigid than they used to be, that's part of it. Anyways, decided to give up. Already feeling kindof down, I started thinking "I'm a failure at this too" but tried to kick away that foolish thought. But still kindof grumpy that now I won't have good vision for scuba diving, unless I drop another $100 for lenses for the diving mask which I'll rarely use. I'm already sinking a lot of money into this, considering it's something I'm not that interested in to begin with. Actually, I'm starting to feel that way about the whole trip in general, though I'm sure once I'm there things'll pick up and I should enjoy myself.

To Singapore! almost

Trevor came into my office and asked if I want to go to Singapore for a few days. Everything paid for. I went to check with my supervisor, but by then it was too late, someone else took the opportunity.

One of our aircraft is in Indonesia. Something on the radar broke. Every day it doesn't fly costs like $20000 (or maybe it was $40000?). Sending a person with a part is much quicker than shipping the part. So it's cheaper to get a volunteer to take it there, pay for his flight and hotel and taxi and everything. Can't get into Indonesia easily, but can get into Singapore and then pass it to someone to take the rest of the way to Indonesia.

I wanted to go, though it was very sudden. But I'm already going on a trip Mar 13. I checked with my supervisor, he didn't seem too keen on the idea of me going since I need to get some work done here. But almost immediately, someone else had taken the opportunity, so it became a moot point.

Awww would've been cool, maybe even have seen some people again.

Hope the radar breaks more often :P
