Daylight Savings

So, clocks are going to change this weekend. Supposedly in some places, it saves electricity. I don't know if it does here, might get to spend a bit of time with the lights off in the morning, in exchange for more time with lights on in the evening. Pretty soon, for a normal 8 hr day, it'll be sunrise during or after the commute to work, and sunset during or before the trip home, meaning you'll always need your lights on when at home. Meanwhile, most workplaces have the lights on during work hours, regardless of the natural light outside.

Therefore, I propose that the clocks are adjusted by a few hours in the opposite direction, such that daylight hours last something like 1pm-8pm. In the morning, it's dark, no difference. During the day, it's office artificial light, no difference. The difference is that in the evening, instead of being dark as in our normal system, in this new system it would remain somewhat light. This would cut down the need for artificial light, as well as simply making people happier through their own exposure to natural light and promoting spending a bit more time outside.

Third time's the charm

Well, I already described my first blood donation attempt. Didn't go so well.
Now my wait time is done, I tried to donate again. But after the initial tests and forms, I was turned back because I'd done a blood test recently and not discussed the results with the doctor. I didn't feel there was much point, when I visited the doctor I found I was right, but rules are rules.
Went back again today. this time, got all the way through. Didn't feel light headed or ill at all. Quite uneventful. Took a long time as apparently my blood was slow and even stopped from time to time, but whatever. I'm pleased with it.
Now lets return to periodically visiting malaria-endemic countries and be ineligible for some more years.
