Zoo of course

Autumn finally here. On my last day of freedom from the office, what should I do. What do I like to do that's so much better to do on a weekday compared to weekend? And with noone else available, something that's still nice alone. Zoo of course! As I biked up there though, it was suddenly very clear that summer was ending and autumn arriving. Even more so than the sight of yellow leaves was the scent, you know, that autumn scent. Savour these last few days.

Kelowna Dragonboat

Had to drive, which I wasn't really planning on, but it wasn't so bad. And since someone had a knee injury we had even more excuse for some stretch stops which made it more comfortable. Overall, though I didn't know the team well, it was fun. Went for some drinks saturday and a crazy stranger named "gary" bought us shots and apparently is a successful businessman who likes to drink and party... When he said his driver would be there soon, we still thought he might be full of crap, but when a subservient guy in a suit came in to retreive him, we realized his story's probably solid. Next evening, a fun dinner which ended up involving monkeys, mermaids and a giraffe. The weekend weather started drizzly but became sunny and ok temperature for the rest of the time. The festival was sponsored by a casino which was giving out $10 coupons, and surprisingly, rather than directly exchange the coupon for chips which would encourage people to use it in the casino, it was exchanged for a nice new $10 bill, which of course many people walked right out with. (I changed my $10 into $25 at the blackjack table before bailing). Also, though they tried, it was difficult to keep track of "one coupon per person" so many people went multiple times. For the drive home from Kelowna, by coincidence four vehicles of people met up at the Tim Hortons in Revelstoke, which is pretty cool. Surprisingly I felt quite solid, not sleepy at all, for the whole drive back. Also interesting to find out afterwards that I was one of the speedy drivers, passing a few teammate cars along the way though I didn't know it at the time. Wasn't actually that fast, but I will say the curvy part near Mara lake is so much better in my car compared to a minivan in a previous year!

Had a super vivid dream while there. And, it was regarding dragonboat. We were someplace, in a hotel at the top of a hill. The hotel was interesting, I don't remember who I was rooming with, but I remember there was a nook/loft type area on the side, and then it had a fireman's pole to slide down to the hotel lobby. Yeah, doesn't have to make sense. We started walking towards the race site. Then I remembered, we were supposed to have a 7:15 meeting in the hotel (this was true in real life). I wondered if it was fine that we were going to miss it. So I phoned back to the hotel to Jackie's room, and someone who was sharing the room answered (Allison?) and said that it probably didn't matter. Then a few minutes later, Hollis phoned me, and said that probably I should be there, since I was steering (in real life, Hollis was the one steering), to know the course/turns etc. I was shocked to hear about turns! Anyways, I think I continued, or, we were riding in a van at that point and went down to the coastline, the road was partly flooded with stormy waves crashing on shore, and I got a little nervous that I'd be steering in that. That's about all I recall now.
