Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

I heard about Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and borrowed it from the library. It's awesome. It's a sortof comedy musical, though ends up a bit dark. Some of the tunes are particularly catchy and have been playing in my head for the past couple weeks. (If I say my favorite lyrics, you'll think I'm even more messed up than you currently do). It was designed for the internet, during the tv writers strike a couple years back. When they decided to put it on DVD, you know how all DVDs these days have to have some lame director's commentary, these guys decided to create "Commentary! The Musical" with another set of songs (mostly silly, like one actor singing how he's better than the other, or a cowriter rapping how he hates musicals). Anyways, overall it's awesome.

Civic Election 2010

I admit, sometimes I don't care much about elections. Sometimes I haven't voted. And my justification has generally been that it won't count. I know many people don't like that. But these elections have been cases where Candidate A gets 80% of the vote and B gets 20%. It stands to reason that if all the abstainers were forced to vote, about 80% of them would vote A and 20% B. Even a completely random vote would put it at 50%-50%, which still wouldn't have an impact on the winner. The only significant issue is if there was something about their positions that resulted in all of A's supporters voting while all of B's stayed home... and in that case, B probably deserved to lose.

This years civic election is a completely different situation. The now-famous poll showing a 32%-30%-30% (4% error) shows that there is truly a 3-way tie. This time, everyone's vote really does make a difference, and for a change I actually do think it's irresponsible of people not to do some research and cast their vote. And considering how our incumbent mayors never lose (Klein 9 yrs, Duerr 11 years, Bronconnier 9 years, each one leaving by their own choice) this matters even more.

Bike being bitch

Alliteration!

Was thinking how being the end of season, I really should do some bike shopping, as there may be some good clearance sales, even though I won't ride much till spring. Also I wanted to go for a longish bike ride. So I headed westward along the river, planning to stop at Bow Cycle to look around then continue my trip.

As I entered bowness, suddenly the cable for my front deraileur came off, so I was stuck in easy-front with the deraileur out of place and cable hanging. I foolishly left my tool at home. Decided to continue to bow cycle, as I got there they were just about to close the door because of some special event, but luckily I got a guy to spend a minute to fasten it again... not in the right place, but enough that I could use middle gear for the ride home.

So I headed home... along the way, at one point I was surprised as I almost slid out turning on some gravel. But managed to keep control.

Then a few minutes later, I was sortof going sideways down a grass slope to a road and I'm not quite sure what happened, my bike threw me off onto the pavement and landed on top of me. I wasn't too hurt, just scraped hands and knees.

Seems like my bike was really being a jerk today. And trying to emphasize that it wants to retire.

Back home, I visited Life Sport and Ridley. LS had a couple nicely clearance priced. R just had regular price. But, R offers gear/brake service for life, which is really attractive to me, which LS doesn't offer. Soo... not sure. May call them again and see if LS can come closer to R's service, or if R can come closer to LS's price on the similar model.

Trihawk

I find it amusing that after a good bike ride, because of sweat and the vent locations in the helmet, I have a tri-hawk.

Kilometerage

I looked at my odometer, and realized in the past 12 months, I've only put 6500km on my car. I've heard average is 20000, sometimes 25000. I knew I was far below average, but didn't realize quite how far. And this year I wasn't out of town without my car very much. And I was unemployed for some, being home and near my car much of the time.
